After a decade-long run, a craft distillery brand and cocktail lounge is closing its River North Art District (RiNo) location. The Block Distilling Co. announced its permanent closure with a social media announcement. The business plans to wind down operations over the next three to four months, beginning in August.
The Block Distilling Co. is Set to Close
The Block Distilling Co. is well-known for distilling all its spirits completely in-house and offering an extensive cocktail program. The space features a sleek and modern atmosphere with an industrial warehouse-inspired interior. Its spirits include bourbon, rye whiskey, vodka, and seasonal gin varieties. The cocktail program includes scratch-made drinks.
The Block takes a lot of pride in using raw ingredients, industrial equipment, and combining it with culinary techniques, and chemistry methods to create its spirits. It also built a strong following in the community with its inclusivity and fun yet relaxed atmosphere.
Through a social media post, the restaurant team shared the heartbreaking news of its closure. On August 8, the Block team said that the location at 2990 Larimer Street in Denver will be closing soon.
The team thanked the community for its support and said, “You got us this far. We sincerely cannot compliment you nor express our gratitude for the way you have shown up, brought your chosen and blood family, and been part of the community that formed around The Block.”
Following the closure announcement, several loyal customers of the lounge expressed their disappointment on social media. “The most delicious whiskey forever in our hearts and memories,” commented a customer.

What Led to the Closure
The team said the business was performing well but that the current timing was difficult. The team also highlighted that the business was doing well; however, the timing is just terrible for the business.
“The industry is in the dumps, and unfortunately our timing sucked,” stated the team.
During the three-to-four-month wind-down, the lounge plans to offer discounted bottles and other specials.
The Block team encourages community members to visit for one last cheer before it closes permanently.
