Iconic Immersive Art Museum in Downtown Boston Announces Closure

An immersive art museum located in downtown Boston is preparing to shut its doors permanently. WNDR Museum announced the closure on social media. The museum is also closing its Chicago location in September 2026.

Boston’s WNDR Art Museum Is Set To Close Next Week

Located at 500 Washington Street, the WNDR Museum features immersive digital art, dynamic light installations, and movement-activated exhibits. The 17,000-square-foot multi-sensory space includes 20 distinct installations like the Light Floor, WNDRWall, INSIDEOUT, and more.

The museum also includes a gift shop and WNDR Lounge, which serves light bites, coffee, and local craft beers. The Boston location of the WNDR Museum was founded in 2022 and has welcomed numerous guests.

One of the most attractive features of the museum is “LOVE IS CALLING,” an immersive installation created in 2013 by Yayoi Kusama, a renowned Japanese artist.

The museum announced the closure in an Instagram post. The museum team wrote, “After years of curiosity, creativity, connection, and countless unforgettable moments, WNDR Museum is preparing to close its doors.”

The WNDR Museum’s Boston location will shut down on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

The museum team thanked the customers, artists, creators, and staff for supporting the WNDR and said, “Thank you. You made these spaces more than museums. You made them places to play, wonder, connect, and create memories.”

Chicago Location Will Also Close

The flagship location of WNDR Museum was established in 2018 in Chicago. The museum was opened with an aim to transform the way people engage with art, play, and connection. The experience combines interactive installations with creative and imaginative elements.

In the Instagram post, the museum team also announced the closure of WNDR Museum. Located at 1130 W. Monroe Street in Chicago, IL, the museum will shut down on September 7, 2026.

Visitors expressed disappointment in the comments on the museum’s Instagram post. One visitor commented, “This makes me so sad. We loved visiting.”

The museum team did not share any official reason for its sudden closure. They encouraged both Boston and Chicago communities to visit the museums one more time and bid farewell.
