A Columbus-area plant shop continues to grow, with two brick-and-mortar locations now open and plans to add another store in the region.
The Columbus Underground reported that Over Grown, a tropical houseplant boutique founded by partners Nate and Jess Hurst, currently operates locations in Westerville and Historic Dublin.
The business is located at 10 N. State St. in Westerville and 46 S. High St. in Dublin, offering a variety of houseplants ranging from popular pothos and succulents to rarer plants sourced from greenhouses outside Ohio.
Nate Hurst, the owner, told the publication mentioned above that Over Grown takes a plant-care-first approach, with a strong focus on educating customers on how to properly care for their plants.
Over Grown began in late 2023, when the couple started selling plants at local markets. As the business gained traction, the pair opened their first brick-and-mortar shop in Sunbury in 2024.
The Sunbury location was later closed as the owners looked for a space with greater foot traffic. They opened the Westerville location in 2025, followed by the Dublin location in June 2026.
The Westerville shop serves as Over Grown’s flagship location and can accommodate roughly 350 plants. The Dublin location, meanwhile, holds approximately 250 plants and is designed around both retail and hands-on experiences.
Customers at the Dublin shop can participate in activities such as building cactus gardens, while the space can also be booked for private events.
“We look at it as Westerville as the flagship location, and Dublin as the experience location,” Hurst said.
The Dublin location is also preparing to launch a tissue culture lab, which will allow Over Grown to grow plants from small portions of mature plants.
The owners expect the lab to help bring more rare plant varieties to the Ohio market while keeping prices more accessible by growing the plants in-house rather than sourcing them from out-of-state growers.
The first plantlets are expected to arrive by the end of August.
“I’m just really excited about the opportunity to showcase a lot of rare stuff, because there’s a market for it here, and we want to be able to do it at the right price for folks,” Hurst said.
Looking ahead, Over Grown plans to continue expanding. Hurst said the owners would like to open one more local store in the Columbus area before eventually looking beyond Columbus.
However, the company has not yet announced a location or opening date for that potential third store.
For now, Over Grown’s Westerville and Dublin locations remain open Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
