A longtime favorite Jacksonville pizza restaurant has closed its doors permanently. Al’s Pizza served its last meal on August 25, marking the end of its 23-year journey. The restaurant announced the closure on social media and thanked customers for their support.
Al’s Pizza Closed Its Riverside Location After 2 Decades
The restaurant chain is popularly known for serving classic New York-style pizzas in a sit-down restaurant atmosphere. The chain features perfectly cooked NY-style thin-crust pizzas brushed with garlic butter. The menu includes traditional pies, Sicilian pizzas, and other Italian-American favorites.
The Riverside location at 1620 Margaret Street in Jacksonville permanently closed this week. The team wrote, “It’s time for us to close a chapter by closing our Riverside location.”
Al’s Pizza opened its Riverside location in 2003. The restaurant has served the Five Points neighborhood for more than two decades and was a go-to place for the community.
According to the Hoodline, the pizza chain was founded in 1988 by Al Mansur at Beach Boulevard and San Pablo. The restaurant expanded to four more locations across Jacksonville over the years.
Although the Riverside location is closed, the remaining locations continues to operate. “Al’s Pizza remains open at our four other locations near Baymeadows, San Pablo, Neptune Beach, and Ponte Vedra,” added the team. They encouraged customers to visit the other locations.

The restaurant team also added an appreciation note and said, “We are immensely grateful for all of our customers, friends, and team members over the years who helped make this location such a staple. We will miss serving you.”
Although Al’s Pizza Riverside has shut down, customers can still enjoy their favorite pizzas at its other locations.
