Pause Studio is working on its first Greater Houston opening. According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit, the new Pause Studio is expected to open in the Woodway Collection Shopping Center at 1395 South Voss Road, Space 18.
The permit further details that the construction project should’ve been completed by now. The estimated $672,000 construction project started last summer. But the opening is still listed as “coming soon” on the brand’s website.
What Now Houston reached out to Pause Studio Chief Executive Officer John Klein to find out more about the expansion. Unfortunately, we did not hear back by the time of this publication. Evan Allen is listed as the franchisee of the new Pause Studio. What Now also reached out to Allen to find out more about the exciting new addition to Houston’s fitness community. But we did not hear back by the time of this publication.
“Pause Tanglewood offers a modern approach to recovery, inspired by the vibrant spirit of Houston,” the Pause Studio website reads.
“Located at 1395 S Voss Rd, our studio is a peaceful retreat designed to help you recover, recharge, and reconnect in the heart of Tanglewood.”

Pause Studio was founded in 2016 in Venice Beach, California, by former Equinox executives Jeff Ono and Klein after experiencing corporate burnout. The two met while working at Equinox and began exploring alternative wellness therapies like float therapy. By 2018, Pause Studio had expanded services to include infrared saunas, cold plunges, IV drip therapy, and LED light therapy, pioneering a private contrast therapy suite. In 2021, the company opened the West Hollywood flagship location after raising a $2 million seed investment during the pandemic in late 2020. In 2024, Pause Studio expanded nationally with franchise openings in places like Newport Beach, West Des Moines, and a location in Summerlin, Las Vegas, pushing the brand to dozens of awarded territories across multiple states.
There are now at least 16 Pause Studio locations operating across the United States, with nearly 100 additional franchise territories awarded for future nationwide expansion. Texas has two of those studios, with one in Southlake and another in Dallas.
