Zach Smith, the owner behind fellow St. Catharines restaurants Fat Rabbit and French Bistro Les Incompetents, is planning to open a new restaurant this year. Sunset Steak & Cheese will open as a “local hangout” at 180 St. Paul St. in St. Catharines, according to the brand’s Instagram page.
The restaurant, expected to open in November, will feature elements of Philadelphia’s classic sandwich shops. The menu will include a variety of sandwiches as well as hot dogs and chili-cheese fries, according to Toronto Life.
The space will also pay homage to Sunset Restaurant, which previously operated in the space, and the design will incorporate historic elements that maintain the integrity of the space, according to Toronto Life.
Fat Rabbit has gained acclaim since its opening in 2023, gaining recognition from the Michelin Guide.
What Now Toronto has reached out to Smith for additional information regarding Sunset Steak & Cheese.
Smith is also involved in a new venture, a Spanish restaurant called Casa Rubia, which is slated to open in September in Toronto.
