Golden Chick is working on another Greater Houston opening. According to the team behind the brand and this recently filed Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit, the new Golden Chick is planned to open in the Greater Katy/West Houston area at 1930 N Fry Road.
The address is a freestanding commercial building located within the Fry Road Crossing Shopping Center, historically known as Crossing at Fry Road. The building itself is a standalone second-generation restaurant property with a drive-thru that was previously operated as a Pizza Hut, but it shares cross-access and infrastructure with the main shopping plaza. The Fry Road Crossing Shopping Center features prominent area retailers and restaurants, including Hobby Lobby, Spec’s Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods, and Feast Buffet. The center is positioned along North Fry Road in the Park Row area, just north of Interstate 10.
The permit for the new Golden Chick opening in the center further states that construction is expected to start in October and wrap up in February of next year. If all goes well with permitting and the estimated $100,000 construction project, the new Golden Chick should open by Spring 2027.
At the helm of the opening is Golden Chick franchisee Ashley Alam. What Now Houston reached out to Alam to find out more about the exciting expansion plans. Unfortunately, we did not hear back by the time of this publication.
“Golden Chick is one of the fastest-growing restaurant brands in the U.S. and was recognized as one of the very top brands in the country by Nation’s Restaurant News,” the Golden Chick website reads.
“Big things are planned for the little brand that started in San Marcos back in 1967. If there’s not a Golden Chick in your city now, there probably will be soon.”
Golden Chick was founded in 1967 in San Marcos, Texas, by Howard and Jacque Walker under the original name Golden Chick. In 1982, the Walkers sold the growing 39-unit chain to an investment group. The signature chicken strips, trademarked as the Original Golden Tenders, were invented in 1985. By 1989, Mark Parmerlee and the Parmerlee family had purchased the chain.
There are now more than 250 Golden Chick locations, mostly in Texas and neighboring states. There are at least 15 locations across the Greater Houston area.
Golden Chick is anticipated to open in the West Houston area within the Fry Road Crossing Shopping Center at 1930 N Fry Road by next Spring.
