A Mexican comfort food staple officially closed its doors on Sunday. With Sobremesa, Tilford Restaurant Group marked the end of its 9-year journey in St. Charles. Due to low sales and financial issues, the restaurant has shut down its operations.

Sobremesa Closed Its St. Charles Location

A community favorite Mexican restaurant located at 1650 Beale Street in St. Charles bid farewell to the community with a social media announcement. Sobremesa offered a relaxing and warm dining experience with its colorful and vibrant atmosphere. The menu featured Mexican comfort food and a full-service bar program.

According to the St. Louis report, the restaurant was part of Tilford Restaurant Group, owned by brothers Adam and Jason Tilford. Recently, the restaurant group has been reshuffling, which led to the closure of several restaurants, including Sobremesa.

The restaurant team shared the closure news on Facebook and said, “Very sorry to announce that we will be closing this Sunday, September 13th, after dinner service.”

Reflecting on the restaurant’s legacy, the team said, “When we closed Session Taco to create Sobremesa, we wanted to bring something exciting to St. Charles. We created a beautiful space, a great menu, and an amazing team.”

Reason Behind the Closure

The restaurant team stated, “Unfortunately, the economy has hit the restaurants hard, and sales are not close to where they need to be to sustain operations.”

Two remaining sister restaurants, Session Taco’s Delmar Loop and Soulard locations, and LaPeZ Mod Mex located at 398 N Euclid Avenue in St. Louis, will continue to serve the community.

The restaurant team informed the community that the gift cards can be used at “either Session Taco locations or LaPez Mod Mex.”

In the post, the team mentioned, “9 years in the Streets of St. Charles as Mission Taco Joint, Session Taco, and Sobremesa, but our time has come to an end.”

Following the closure announcement, several customers expressed their disappointment on social media. “This makes me so sad! I love, love, loved your food and drinks,” commented one customer.

With the closure of Sobremesa, the St. Charles dining community has lost a gem from its dining landscape.
