Landmark Italian Restaurant in Bakersfield Ends 31-Year Run with Permanent Closure

A fine-dining restaurant in downtown Bakersfield has announced its permanent closure. Uricchio’s Trattoria, a family-owned Italian restaurant has closed after more than three decades.

Uricchio’s Trattoria Closes After 31 Years

Founded by Nick Uricchio and his son, Uricchio’s Trattoria operated inside the historic Haberfelde building at 1400 17th Street in Bakersfield. The restaurant opened in 1995 and served Italian dishes throughout its 31-year run.

Executive Chef Raphael Hernandez oversaw a menu of Italian dishes. On September 14, 2026, the restaurant team shared that they had decided to close Uricchio’s Trattoria permanently.

In the announcement, the team wrote, “In June of 2025, we celebrated 30 years in business. This past year, however, found us facing some hurdles we could not overcome.”

According to a SFGATE, in June 2026, the restaurant owner, Claire Porter, announced a temporary closure for the summer.

Customers React to the Closure

The sudden closure announcement of the restaurant drew a lot of attention from its longtime customers and community members. One customer expressed their disappointment and wrote, “Ohhh, I’m so sad to hear that! Several birthdays, anniversaries, and date nights spent with you all…the end of an era.”

Another customer shared a heartfelt message and said, “My husband and I had our first date at Uricchio’s 23 years ago. It’s been a part of our love story and celebrations ever since.”

Several customers also wished the owner and restaurant best for their future and thanked them for their service. “To make it 30 years as an independent restaurant is nothing short of incredible. Thank you for an amazing run,” stated one community member.

In the post, the restaurant team appreciated the community for their support.

With the closure of Uricchio’s Trattoria, a longstanding legacy of Italian fine dining has left the Bakersfield restaurant community.
