A longtime favorite, Grandma’s Saloon and Grill in Virginia, Minnesota, announced its permanent closure. After 35 years, the Virginia restaurant will close after Grandma’s Restaurant Company decided not to renew its lease for 2027.
Virginia’s Grandma’s Saloon & Grill Announces Closure
Grandma’s Saloon and Grill, founded in 1991, offers a vibrant and old-school, nostalgic dining experience. It is also deeply rooted in northern Minnesota hospitality and a family-friendly atmosphere.
The restaurant has a full-service bar with a wide selection of beers and cocktails. The menu includes American pub comfort food like chicken pot pie, walleye fillet sandwich, loaded burgers, and onion burgers.
In a social media post, the restaurant announced that the Virginia location will close. The team stated that Grandma’s Saloon and Grill, located at 1302 S 12th Avenue W, Virginia, will shutter on September 27, 2026.
The restaurant built its reputation around the legacy of an Italian immigrant named “Grandma Rosa Brochi.” Grandma Brochi originally operated a boarding house in Duluth and focused on 100% customer satisfaction.
Two decades later, her grandsons and local businessmen, Andy Borg Jr. and Mick Paulucci, founded a restaurant group and reopened the original flagship in Duluth and expanded their footprint.
In the post, the restaurant management said, “We are profoundly grateful for the relationship we have shared with the Virginia community over the last 35 years.”
Reason Behind the Closure
According to the company, Grandma’s Restaurant Company will not renew its Virginia lease for 2027.
The team explained, “Rather than operating under a short-term lease that could compromise the high standards of food and service our guests expect, we have chosen to close this chapter with our quality and reputation intact.”
The restaurant group assured that they are focused on supporting their employees during this transition period.
“Affected team members can continue their hospitality careers at our Duluth locations, including Grandma’s Saloon & Grill, Little Angie’s Cantina, Bellisio’s Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar, The Garden Wedding & Event Center, and the Adventure Zone Family Fun Center,” stated the team.
For their customers, the team also added, “There will always be a warm welcome and a table waiting for them at our Canal Park restaurants.”
While the restaurant is saying goodbye to the Iron Range community, it encourages customers to visit the restaurant one more time.
