Oven and Shaker, a restaurant specializing in Neapolitan pizzas and Italian street food alongside craft cocktails, is preparing to shut its doors. After more than a decade in Portland, it is gearing up to serve its final plate on Friday, October 30, 2026.
Oven and Shaker to Close Permanently
The pizzeria and cocktail bar announced on Instagram that it will shut down its operations after over 15 years of business. Owner and barman Ryan Magarian made the announcement on behalf of six-time James Beard-nominated chef Cathy Whims, Kurt Huffman, and the entire Oven and Shaker team.
Several users reacted to the post and remembered their time at the Portland establishment.
A comment read, “Literally choked up over this, so many special memories at this restaurant. Birthdays, dates, celebrations, random happy hours…this has been my absolute favorite all-time restaurant.”

Reasons Behind the Closure
Magarian said the restaurant struggled to generate enough revenue amid changing conditions in Portland’s restaurant industry. While the restaurant managed to survive the after-effects of Covid, a slower downturn, higher costs, and fewer customers, things worsened this summer.
Magarian added that as kids went back to school and the tourism season started to shut down, it became difficult for them to ignore the challenging situation.
Oven and Shaker Plans Final-Month Menu
Oven and Shaker plans to make its final month a celebration of the restaurant’s history. According to the recent closure announcement, the team will bring back food and beverage favorites from throughout its time downtown.
The restaurant will also offer an ‘All-Oven Original Cocktail Menu’ featuring drinks created by bartenders who have worked with the restaurant over the years.
