Central City is increasingly becoming a destination for elevated food, drink, and entertainment — and an upcoming spot promises to add to that momentum. When it opens this fall at 1800 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., Saint & Rebel will blend traditional Louisiana warmth with a more irreverent approach.
Co-owner Kristin Vancourt said Saint & Rebel will, first and foremost, offer an elevated social dining experience that encourages guests to settle in and stay awhile.
“What we want to give is an experience,” Vancourt recently told What Now New Orleans. “It will be a place where you can eat your meal, and then stay to enjoy a great cocktail, socialize with your friends, and hear some good music.”
The concept also has a dual nature reflected in its name. Co-owner Jerel Butler explained that the identity plays on the balance between honoring local roots and pushing creative boundaries.
“We have this traditional side ‘Saint’ side, where we focus on Southern hospitality and traditional dishes,” Butler said. “And then the ‘Rebel’ side is really us not being afraid to try new things, not being afraid to create new rules and set new standards.”
That philosophy extends to both the food and beverage menus. Guests can expect elevated Creole staples alongside playful, chef-inspired twists — such as a signature Gumbo Roll appetizer. The beverage program carries equal weight to the kitchen, offering custom craft cocktails, elevated lounge-style drinks, and classic New Orleans favorites.
Located along a rapidly evolving stretch of Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, Saint & Rebel joins an ongoing commercial and cultural resurgence. The team notes that new businesses and upcoming investments are drawing steady neighborhood interest.
“There are some very interesting things blooming in the area that are leading to more activity and foot traffic,” said co-owner Allegra Butler. “We’re excited about that traffic that we’re going to get with all these other great businesses in the area.”
Saint & Rebel is currently undergoing cosmetic renovations to refresh the former Café Roma. The owners said they are targeting late fall for a soft opening.
