Kura Revolving Sushi Bar is preparing to open a location at 1101 El Camino Real, Space F1D, in Redwood City. The upcoming restaurant is listed on the company’s official website, and an alcoholic beverage license filing was also provided for the address.
According to Kura Sushi USA’s website, the company operates a technology-focused Japanese restaurant concept built around revolving sushi. The U.S. business was established in 2008 as a subsidiary of Kura Sushi Inc., whose restaurant history dates to 1977. The company operates locations in Japan, Taiwan and the United States.
The Redwood City restaurant will join the chain’s existing network of restaurants serving sushi and other Japanese dishes. Customers can select plates moving along a revolving conveyor or order food through a touchscreen tablet at their table.
The company’s menu includes sushi, side dishes, noodles, desserts, and alcoholic beverages. Its website also highlights seasonal menu additions, with new dishes introduced throughout the year. The company says its food is prepared without artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives, or colorings.
Kura also uses a plate-tracking system and specially designed ventilated lids intended to help maintain the freshness of dishes moving along the conveyor. Its ordering system incorporates a game in which customers can earn a prize by returning 15 plates through a designated slot.
The company’s website lists Redwood City among its upcoming California locations, alongside Canoga Park, Oxnard and Carlsbad. An opening date for the Redwood City restaurant has not been confirmed in the information available for this article.
