InvaGen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a New York-based generic drug manufacturer, filed a notice with the New York State Department of Labor on Oct. 8 disclosing that it plans to eliminate 205 positions at two of its facilities beginning November 27.

The affected locations are InvaGen’s facilities in Central Islip and Hauppauge, New York.

InvaGen, acquired by Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company Cipla in 2016, develops, manufactures and distributes generic medicines.

Where the Layoffs Are Happening

According to the New York State Department of Labor’s WARN listings, the layoffs will affect 160 employees at 550 S. Research Place in Central Islip and 45 employees at 600 Old Willets Path in Hauppauge. Both are scheduled to begin November 27.

The federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act requires covered employers to provide advance notice of certain mass layoffs and plant closures. New York’s WARN Act has broader requirements, including a 90-day notice period for covered employers and qualifying employment losses.

These notices give affected employees and local officials time to prepare for job losses and connect workers with resources such as unemployment benefits, job training and reemployment assistance.

The facility is not closing, however, and parent company Cipla says it will continue to operate in the United States which has served as a critical operational footprint in the health care market.

According to reports from business-news-today.com, the layoffs at InvaGen Pharmaceuticals are part of parent company Cipla’s broader cost-reduction strategy and reset after its first quarter results for fiscal year 2027 exhibited a 21% year‑over‑year revenue drop. This decision is in alignment with the broader pressures that are currently affecting other generic drug manufacturing companies, such as economic pressures and a supply chain realignment.

Headquartered in Hauppauge, New York, InvaGen Pharmaceuticals was founded in 2003 and functions as a subsidiary of Cipla Pharmaceuticals which acquired it in 2016. The global company manufactures generic medications in numerous therapeutic areas including those related to mental health, cardiovascular, infections, diabetes, and pain relief.
