DR Food and Liquor is preparing to open at 8 E. Lockeford St. in Lodi, taking over the space that has housed Tokay Liquors. Co-owner Gurinderjit Padda confirmed to What Now Sacramento that the store will most likely open in January, depending on when the liquor license is approved.
The store will carry a full off-sale license, which covers beer, wine and spirits. That license has been at the address since 2015, when it was issued to Tokay Liquors. Padda co-owns the business with Garmanjit Kang, and the two are listed as the officers of DR Food and Liquor Inc.
Because the license is still moving through the state’s transfer process, the exact opening date will depend on the approval. Once it clears, the new owners can open the doors.
The store sits on Lockeford Street in Lodi, a San Joaquin County city of about 66,000 known as the center of one of California’s best-known wine regions. The Lodi area grows more Zinfandel than almost anywhere else in the state, and the “Tokay” name comes from the Flame Tokay grape that dominated local vineyards for decades before wine grapes took over.
