After bidding farewell to barbecue, a Church Hill storefront is getting ready to welcome one of the world’s favorite carbs. The former home of Alamo BBQ will become Baltik’s Bagel’s second location later this year, reports local media outlet Richmond BizSense.
Founded in 2024, the still-young bakery will be serving up its scratch-made bagels at 2022 Jefferson Avenue. Baltik’s Bagel founder Yero Rudzinskas expresses enthusiasm for the new location, saying: “We’re so thrilled to be part of Church Hill. The Southside has taught us that being part of a community which invests in itself has huge rewards for us, our staff, and the community itself. We’re super excited and humbled by the welcome Church Hill has already given us; we can’t wait to make some bagel dreams come true!”
A press release provided to What Now DC establishes that Baltik’s will continue crafting the same bagels that have already made it such a hit in Southside Richmond. Rudzinskas states: “We’re so grateful to our community in Forest Hill. The welcome we received when we moved
into the neighborhood as unknowns was, and remains, overwhelming. We'll keep bringing the Southside the best possible bagels every day. We want to do the same for the people who live and work in Church Hill and downtown.”
While Baltik’s does not yet have an official opening date established for its second act, the eatery is aiming to be customer-ready next month. The concept is truly poised to be quite a significant arrival to the Church Hill dining scene; it has earned considerable acclaim in its short life. The press release shows: “Since opening in 2024, it has earned national and regional recognition, including being named the People’s Choice Champion at the 2025 NYC Bagel Fest and being voted Richmond’s Best New Restaurant in 2025, Richmond’s Best Bagel, one of the top 100 Restaurants in Richmond, and the Best Bagel in Virginia.”
