A restaurant known for its sweeping London skyline views, refined cuisine, and sophisticated bar scene is preparing to cross the pond.
Oblix, a contemporary restaurant and bar located inside one of London’s most recognizable skyscrapers, is planning to open its first location outside the United Kingdom at the Hilton Boston Park Plaza Hotel, located at 50 Park Plaza in Boston’s Back Bay. According to an Instagram update from local photographer and real estate observer Bret Clancy, Oblix is taking over the former Strip by Strega space, which replaced Whiskey Park in 2015.
Since opening in 2012, Oblix has occupied the 32nd floor of The Shard, the tallest building in the United Kingdom and Western Europe. Its London outpost is divided into two distinct spaces: Oblix West, a dining room and grill, and Oblix East, a bar, lounge, and music venue overlooking London Bridge.
The Boston location is expected to bring a similar upscale dining experience to the Back Bay, with a menu featuring refined seafood dishes, premium cuts of meat, and expertly crafted cocktails. London menu highlights include hand-cut beef tartare with black truffle and mature cheddar toast, burrata, crispy chicken with a honey, lime, and chili glaze, and grilled dry-aged sirloin.
The London restaurant also offers brunch and afternoon tea. The Boston location is expected to serve dinner and brunch, though it remains unclear whether afternoon tea will make its way across the Atlantic, too.
According to a report from The Boston Sun, the proposed restaurant would accommodate up to 328 people, with a 162-seat dining area, a smaller dining area, an oyster bar, and an open kitchen. The proposed closing time is 2 a.m. to accommodate weddings and other late-night functions.
Oblix is part of Azumi Restaurant Group, an award-winning international hospitality company behind several upscale dining concepts, including Zuma, a Japanese izakaya-style restaurant with a location at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston’s Back Bay.
Garrett Ronan, who operates Zuma Boston and founded boutique hospitality operations and development consultancy GKR Hospitality, also appears to be involved in the upcoming Oblix location. Business filings for Oblix Boston LLC point to Ronan’s involvement, while GKR’s website notes his role in opening and operating Zuma and other Azumi restaurants across six U.S. cities.
The new restaurant is expected to open toward the end of July 2027. What Now Boston has reached out to Ronan and Azumi Restaurant Group for additional details about the upcoming restaurant, including its menu and plans for the Boston location.
