Yume Ga Arukara has opened its doors in New York City this month. It brings the brand’s signature udon dishes to the city. It also expands the brand’s presence beyond Massachusetts.

Yume Ga Arukara Makes Its NYC Debut

Yume Ga Arukara opened at 271 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood on October 21. It is a concept by Juan Carlos Vidal and Chef Tsuyoshi Nishioka, who opened their first restaurant in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The name Yume Ga Arukara means “Because I Have a Dream.” It gained national attention after Bon Appétit ranked it eighth on its “Hot 10 Restaurants” list in 2018.

The Fifth Avenue location brings the restaurant’s signature udon dishes to New York City. The restaurant focuses on traditional preparation methods, including freshly made noodles and broth that takes up to 12 hours to prepare.

The restaurant combines traditional Japanese craftsmanship with modern, minimalist design. It features sculptural wooden ceilings, woven textures and lighting inspired by udon noodles.

There is bar seating on the first floor and an open kitchen, where customers can watch their food being made. Upstairs, the main dining room overlooks Fifth Avenue and offers views of the Norman Vincent Peale Church. An adjoining glass-enclosed atrium garden provides additional seating with natural light and greenery.

The restaurant opens Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.

What’s on the Menu

Yume Ga Arukara offers an udon noodle-focused menu. The restaurant makes its noodles in-house using a specialized machine imported from Japan. The dough is made to achieve the restaurant’s signature thickness and chewy texture.

The restaurant uses different ingredients to create the broths. The components are prepared separately over many hours to allow the layers of flavors to build gradually. The base seasoning is a mix of seaweed, mushrooms, and the brand’s signature soy sauce.

The restaurant uses a fish-based broth for cold noodles and a chicken broth for hot udon noodles. The menu includes Signature Cold Niku Udon, Spicy Cold Niku Udon, Hot Niku Udon, and more.

Yume Ga Arukara brings a new dining destination for diners in New York City.
