A Somerville-based sustainable goods shop and refillery is expanding to Cambridge.
Green Tiger & Co., located in Union Square’s Bow Market, is preparing to open a second storefront at 1175 Cambridge Street near Inman Square, with plans to welcome customers in the spring of 2027. The new location is part of the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority’s (CRA) Neighbor Storefronts Project, which helps independent businesses access affordable retail space and grow their presence in Cambridge. Momma’s Grocery + Wine and Cini Coffee are also participating in the initiative.
Founded by Trang Trinh, Green Tiger & Co. grew out of a personal journey toward more sustainable living. In 2016, after seeing a video of researchers removing a plastic straw from a sea turtle’s nose, Trinh began exploring ways to reduce her environmental footprint. Over time, she envisioned a welcoming place where shoppers could discover thoughtfully made, eco-friendly products without feeling overwhelmed by the prospect of living sustainably.
That vision became Green Tiger & Co., which opened at Bow Market in 2024. Since then, the shop has grown beyond its original 400-square-foot space, expanding to accommodate workshops and community events, including clothing and plant swaps. By the shop’s conservative estimate, Green Tiger and its customers have kept more than 3,000 single-use plastic containers out of landfills and the recycling stream.

Now, Trinh is preparing to bring that same spirit to Cambridge. The new storefront will span approximately 600 square feet on the ground floor, with an additional 150 square feet of basement storage. That extra room will make it easier to purchase household essentials in larger quantities, helping the business offer better value at both locations. At Bow Market, the shop’s second-floor location makes storing and moving bulk supplies more challenging.
While the Cambridge store will share the original’s commitment to reducing waste and supporting local makers, Trinh sees it as a sister location rather than a carbon copy. Customers can expect Green Tiger’s signature refill bar for household staples such as laundry detergent, dish soap, and hand soap, allowing shoppers to bring their own containers and cut down on single-use plastic packaging.
The shelves will be stocked with eco-friendly alternatives to everyday products and locally made goods, including soaps from Lowell and handmade pottery by artists in Somerville and Cambridge. Sustainability-focused workshops, such as clothing mending and jewelry repair, will offer opportunities to learn practical skills and connect with the community.
One feature exclusive to the Inman Square location will be a dedicated corner for upcycled products and vintage finds, adding a curated selection of pre-loved pieces and creatively repurposed goods to the shop’s familiar spread of sustainable essentials.
“Green Tiger is only two years old, so I’ve tried to be really mindful about how we grow,” Trinh told What Now Boston. “But the opportunity with the CRA was incredible, and I decided to take the plunge! We owe so much of our success to our customers, Bow Market, and the Union Square community. We’re excited to share the space with our new neighbors at 1175 and to learn from the other small businesses in Inman Square.”
Green Tiger & Co. is currently on track to open its Cambridge storefront in early spring, likely around mid-March, with a grand opening celebration planned for the season. Follow @greentiger.co on Instagram for updates as the new location takes shape.
