Cardenas Markets is set to open a huge store in the new Hylo Park South retail center. According to a KTNV report, Cardenas Markets will join Ross, In-N-Out, Chase Bank, Tesla, and Sourdough & Co. when the 90,750-square-foot retail center opens in North Las Vegas at 2400 N Rancho Dr.

The 40,000-square-foot Cardenas Markets grocery store will anchor the plaza located at the southeast corner of Lake Mead Boulevard and Rancho Drive on the former Texas Station casino site in North Las Vegas. Agora Realty & Management developed the 11-acre retail portion as part of the larger $375 million Hylo Park master-planned development. Construction on Hylo Park South was completed in mid-2026, with Cardenas Markets and several other major tenants scheduled to open in early 2027.

What Now Las Vegas reached out to Cardenas Markets Division President Ryan Adams to find out more about the upcoming opening. Unfortunately, we did not hear back by the time of this publication.

“Whether our shoppers are seeking authentic ingredients for recipes that go back generations or experiencing our flavors and culture for the first time, we deliver meaningful experiences that connects them to real flavors and real people who truly care,” the Cardenas Market website reads.

“Always Fresh, Always Authentic!”

Cardenas Markets was founded in 1981 in Ontario, California, by Jesús Cárdenas—a Mexican farmworker who immigrated via the Bracero program—and his wife, Luz Cárdenas. Jesús served as CEO and Luz as Vice President for three decades, while raising four children who were involved in the operations. Sadly, Jesús passed away in 2013.

Private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) acquired Cardenas and San Jose-based Mi Pueblo Food Center in late 2016. They merged the chains in 2017 and acquired the Arizona-based Los Altos Ranch Markets. In June 2022, KKR announced the sale of Cardenas to Apollo Global Management-managed funds. Apollo combined Cardenas with Chicago-based Tony’s Fresh Market under Heritage Grocers Group, while both chains continue operating under their respective brand names.
Today, the Heritage Grocers Group operates 65 Cardenas Markets stores across the United States. Six Cardenas Markets are in Nevada, all in the Las Vegas Valley.
What Now also reached out to Heritage Grocers Group CEO David Hinojosa to learn more about the expansion. But we did not hear back by the time of this publication.
“Our customers are like family and we are committed to providing the most authentic offerings and freshest products that celebrate life, family and culture,” the brand’s website reads.
