Al & Ernie’s Bakery Cafe is opening a second location in Battle Ground Village, on the east side of Battle Ground, Washington. The new cafe, called Al & Ernie’s in the Village, will go into a 940-square-foot space at 802 SE 14th Place, with the opening expected in early 2027.
The business is run by the Battle Ground Hospitality Collective, owned by brothers Camden and Mac Spiller. The new cafe is about one-third the size of the original on Main Street, so the menu will be shorter. It will focus on a limited selection of baked goods plus espresso, coffee and tea. The full breakfast and lunch menus will stay at the Main Street flagship.
Remodeling is planned to start in late 2026. The space was previously home to Blue Castle Coffee, which left in August after choosing not to renew its lease. The new cafe will keep a coffee shop in the village for the neighborhood’s residents, employers and visitors, and it will carry the same look and feel as the original.
The original Al & Ernie’s opened in 2024 at 802 E. Main St., in the building that was once Al & Ernie’s Foodliner, a longtime Battle Ground grocery store. The cafe took on the name to honor that history. It has become a local favorite, drawing an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 customers a week, and its signature cinnamon roll has sold nearly 40,000 so far this year. The menu also includes bagels, cornetto pastries, scones, cookies and sourdough and focaccia breads, along with biscuits and gravy, quiche, avocado toast and daily lunch specials. The cafe is open Tuesday through Saturday.
The Village cafe is the collective’s fourth local hospitality business, joining the original Al & Ernie’s, the Battle Ground Farmer’s Market and Tuke’s Public House & Garden. The expansion was announced on Sept. 30 and has been covered by the Vancouver Business Journal.
