As detailed in a permit application with the city of Columbus, a new restaurant called Bariis Chicken & Rice is making plans to open at 5582 Hall Rd, in Galloway. The eatery will open in a shopping plaza and will operate on a take-out service model.

The establishment will bring a concept that, according to owner Omar Abdinasir, is unlike anything else currently offered in the Columbus area. The eatery will serve authentic Ethiopian and Somali cuisine cooked by experienced chefs.

Bariis is a type of Somali rice dish which is typically made using basmati rice that is seasoned and topped with a number of ingredients such as onions, peppers, peas, raisins and fried potatoes. It’s also often served with a roasted meat such as chicken, lamb, beef or goat.

It’s not clear what other items will be on the menu or when the establishment is slated to open. Additional comments from the owner were unavailable at the time of this article’s publication.
