Downtown will soon get a brand new boba tea shop. It’s Boba Time has signed a lease for a 1,400-square-foot, first-floor space, at 508 W. 7th Street, in The Mandel. The location previously housed a Subway and will open steps away from a planned Gyu-Kaku franchise.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, progress has been delayed on the boba tea shop, but Joanna Caldo, the store’s co-owner, said that she hopes for It’s Boba Time to open either late this year or early next year. The menu includes frappes, shakes, smoothies, shaved ice, and fruit teas as well as food options like acai bowls, popcorn chicken, and fries. “We have over 300 different options, so we’re easily able to cater to everyone’s tastebuds,” Caldo told What Now Los Angeles.

Already, the 2003-established business has approximately 50 locations, and the website indicates that there are plans for more in Southern California and in Arizona.

The Mandel first opened in 2007 and houses 55 lofts. The historic building is anchored by 7-Eleven.
