Alongside Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream, Sidecar Donuts, Silverlake Ramen, and several others, Sukiyaki Japan is listed to open up at 3200 Sepulveda Blvd in Manhattan Village, as part of the Center Enhancement Project upon its completion. What Now Los Angeles (WNLA) reached out to Sukiyaki Japan CEO Kazuyuki Nagashima who, at press time, has not responded.

The previous Sukiyaki Japan project manager, Filippo Martellotti, told WNLA that he is unaware if the project even pertains to the previously reported restaurant — which had plans to open up several new locations across LA in 2020. One of which was said to be opening in the Third & Traction development at 806 E. 3rd St. Word was that Sukiyaki Japan was just a “start-up,” and at that time, Martellotti would not divulge details. He did, however, tell WNLA over the phone Thursday that the original project had supposedly shut down in March.

Right now, two Sukiyaki Japan restaurants are listed on Yelp, neither of which ever opened. Whatever restaurant is affiliated with this name is still slated to open in The Village Shops and Plaza, which will complete its center enhancement in 2021.
