Chef David Myers is well-known for operating under the mantle of Gypsy Chef, the brand behind the Culinary Lab-associated Hinoki + The Bird, which made its debut in Century City. Myers’ biggest claim to fame is his globe-trotting effort to open up different restaurants in Singapore, Dubai, and Tokyo — including his series of outposts with the name of “Adrift.” Now, Myers is bringing the name into the American spotlight with Adrift Burger Bar. This craft fast-food burger joint will be opening up Tuesday, November 10, at 1025 Abbot Kinney in Venice.
According to Eater LA, Myers is stuck in the country due to travel limitations put into place because of the COVID pandemic. “I’ve been essentially grounded here,” he said. “So instead of watching Netflix and drinking wine every night, I decided to do something impactful.” Myers previously had quite the impact with his now world-famous burger he created while operating Comme Ça on Melrose — a burger the New York Times previously deemed “perfect.”
“After the legend of his CC burger followed him around the world for the past decade, David Myers has finally launched Adrift Burger Bar, starting with a pop-up on the iconic Abbot Kinney Blvd. in his hometown neighborhood of Venice, CA,” the Gypsy Chef website describes Adrift Burger Bar. “Serving David’s signature burgers and classics with all the fixings alongside grown-up shakes and fries, Adrift Burger Bar embraces David’s Californian roots with hints of his global sojourns etched across the menu.”
Now, the burger is known as the DM Burger, which is served on a brioche bun with a variety of customizable options, was conceived for the novel coronavirus pandemic. “I don’t know about you,” Myers told Eater. “But I just want comforting items right now.”
