Williams-Sonoma in January will close the doors to its Beverly Hills outpost, an employee at the store Sunday confirmed with What Now Los Angeles. Signage at the space confirms the news. “We will be closing this location,” the poster states. “We apologize for any inconvenience and invite you to visit or call us at our nearby locations.”
The nearby locations listed include Pasadena, Manhattan Beach, and Santa Monica. Williams-Sonoma’s Santa Monica store could also close if a tenant is found to replace the kitchenwares and home furnishings tenant — the space in early-2020 was listed for sublease.
As part of its closure, the Beverly Hills Williams-Sonoma has started marking down its merchandise, all of which sales are final, the employee said. Furniture and fixtures used in the store to display products — think tables, shelving — are also being sold at steep discounts.
It’s unclear if the Beverly Hills store closure was due in part to the pandemic, or as part of Williams-Sonoma’s plan to shutter 30 stores this year as announced in 2019. Reps for the chain on Monday did not respond to a request for comment. Earlier this year as retail stores were forced by government mandate to close to slow the spread of COVID-19, Laura Alber, Williams-Sonoma president and CEO, said the company’s e-commerce business accounted for more than 56 percent of total revenues.”
