Mian, the fast-casual extension of Chengdu Taste, will be opening two new locations in Los Angeles, as reported by Eater. Partners Tony Xu and Sean Xie have revealed that the location in Artesia at 11632 South St. is due to open next week, with an opening in West Adams at 5264 W. Adams Blvd. planned for April.

The San Gabriel Valley is known for its plethora of noodle shops, but Mian is one of the best-reviewed, earning recognition by some of the biggest food critics in Los Angeles. Its parent restaurant Chengdu Taste was said to have the “best Sichuan food in America” by Serious Eats in 2015, and in 2016 the late, famed food critic Jonathan Gold also offered Mian high praise.

Sichuan food has gained popularity in the US for its pungent, spicy and crisp flavor profile; fresh noodles with oil as hot as the diner can stand. Mian’s menu is expansive, and a look at its Yelp reviews reveals that there’s no one dish that reviewers have reached a consensus on as being the best. Also according to Yelp, the SGV location has adapted well to takeout, so even if the new locations don’t open in time for lockdown measures to end, there’s plenty of Sichuan flavor to go around.
