Bangers, mash, fish, chips and live fiddle tunes are on their way to Point Loma, with the pending arrival of Long Story Irish Pub.

Along with partners Nathaniel Winnett, Jerod Meents and Joseph DeNigris, founder and Irish pub expert Kyle Schubert is launching his first SoCal venture at 4204 Voltaire St.

Schubert has established something of an Irish pub empire in the Sacramento area, with the success of Roseville’s Boxing Donkey, Auburn’s Diggins Irish Pub and more. With Long Story, Schubert hopes to carry on the tradition of serving up a home away from home.

“The business model we’ve created works so well because people always show up,” Schubert said. “Rain, shine, snow, wind, there’s such a warm feeling about Irish pubs. It’s happy, good music, welcoming atmosphere. Whether it’s 88 degrees or 112 degrees, we’ll always have our regulars. We have phenomenal food, and that helps, but it’s really the environment that people love the most.”

Schubert also prides his pubs on keeping them in ship shape. Cleanliness, customer service and comfort are all critical to running the perfect pub, he explained. Long Story Irish Pub aims to be a local, community-oriented space that welcomes everyone. Part of employee protocol is learning everyone’s names.

“And we never say no, we kill everyone with kindness,” Schubert said. “You get off your fishing boat, you get off your construction job, you get off the golf course, and you go to the Irish pub, period. Because people remember your name, you take that deep breath, and it’s home. It’s literally home.”

Long Story Irish Pub will be ready to open within the next few weeks, but Schubert plans on playing the grand opening by ear, depending on COVID-19 restrictions.
