Duracell Opens Global R&D Headquarters in Atlanta

Duracell officially opened its global research and development (R&D) headquarters at Atlanta’s Science Square innovation district on October 6. The facility is located at 101 Nerem Street NW.
Among those attending the opening ceremony were Mayor Andre Dickens, Chad Koenig, Partner, and Katelyn Fabian, Vice President, of Partners Real Estate’s Atlanta office, who represent Duracell at Science Square Labs.
“It has been a privilege to partner with Duracell as it built its new home in Atlanta,” said Mr. Koenig. “We are grateful for the relationship we’ve built with Duracell and proud to celebrate this milestone with them, for the company and for Atlanta’s growing role as a national science hub.”
Duracell relocated its global R&D operations from Bethel, Connecticut, to metro Atlanta. The relocation is part of a multi-year project announced by the State of Georgia in 2025. The project includes a $56 million investment and is expected to create 110 jobs.
The Atlanta facility will serve as Duracell’s global innovation hub, according to the company. Scientists and engineers will work on battery materials, cell design, laboratory testing, and device performance. Its location near Georgia Tech will also allow Duracell to work with researchers, startups, and other industry partners.
Employees began working at the facility on August 10, 2026. The company occupies about 82,500 square feet at Science Square Labs.
Duracell has had a presence in Georgia since 1980, when it began manufacturing batteries in LaGrange. It has operated a packaging and distribution facility in Fairburn since 2020. The company is also working with local universities and state economic development officials on partnerships in Atlanta.

Science Square Labs was specifically designed for wet and dry laboratories, clean rooms, research facilities, and creative office space. The building has flexible floor plates of roughly 32,000-36,000 square feet and infrastructure designed to support different types of scientific research.
The larger 18-acre mixed-use development is planned to include 1.8 million square feet of lab and office space, 500 residential units, and 25,000 square feet of retail space.
