Upstairs Atlanta is relocating its West Midtown events operation to the Glencastle redevelopment, at 750 Glenwood Ave SE. Upstairs Atlanta Co-Founder Kyle Rubis has always strived for a mix of modern and classic — which is exactly what they found in this historic location.
Upstairs Atlanta does all sorts of events — such as weddings, corporate events, bar mitzvahs, networking, conferences, and the likes. But what sets Upstairs apart from other venues is “our approach to taking good care of clients,” Rubis told What Now Atlanta. “We try to make it as easy as possible for clients and vendors to do business with us. Friendly and helpful staff. We try to focus on a very high level of customer service.” Rubis also emphasized that Upstairs Atlanta is “a little bit more hands-on than most venues.”
This historic building, which was built in 1905 as part of the original Atlanta Stockade, catered to exactly what they wanted. Since it’s a historically significant, protected property, the extent of renovations will be minimal to maintain its history, according to Rubis. A bar area will be added to the space as well as restrooms and storage — along with some minor additions to “bring the building to life,” and to represent the atmosphere Upstairs Atlanta is looking for.
“We try to balance a classic historic atmosphere along with an industrial and modern aesthetic,” Rubis said. “We wanna create a timeless yet somewhat modern space. But it’s beautiful as is, even without decor.” Upstairs Atlanta’s existing location, at 525 Bishop St. NW, will close down once the new Glencastle outpost debuts sometime in February 2021.
What an awesome building!
Can’t wait to see the interior of the event space!
Wonder when full-blown events will be a thing again.
I just read where weddings are trending as much smaller and less expensive (bout time).
