RoleCall Theater, a pop-up theatre producing short-format plays and films written, directed, and starring Georgia talent, is set to debut at Ponce City Market this month.
First in the queue are two short plays from Atlanta-based writers Ariell Lawrence and Charlotte Stauffer, with showings starting Thursday, February 13 (click here for ticket info).
“We’re taking a lot of inspiration from the nickelodeon-style theatres popular in the 1910s, which converted a small storefront in a popular part of town to create a convenient, accessible and affordable way for people to be entertained,” said RoleCall’s Founder Stephen Beehler in a press release.
With the purchase of a ticket where a percentage of sales go directly to the filmmakers, producers, and creatives behind each project, guests—up to 60—will gain access to original 15- to 20-minute live theatre performances or a thoughtfully curated block of short films depending on the day’s schedule.
Plus, both the theatre’s films and plays will be presented several times each evening, so guests can enjoy a convenient and accessible way to catch a pre- or post-dinner show.
In the weeks following, the theatre pop-up will begin offering additional programming, including writing classes for kids, teens, and adults through its sister organization Screenplay South.
“The South has such a unique, complicated, beautiful—and sometimes ugly—history,” continued Beehler.
“All of these elements are the perfect concoction for compelling stories with dynamic characters that audiences are sure to emotionally connect with.”
