Currently unused lot will house a two-story center and surrounding garden area.
The City in a Forest is getting more vegetation with a new community garden.
Mayson Avenue Cooperative, LLC, a subsidiary of The Zeist Foundation, filed plans with the City of Atlanta this week to build a new community center at 1503 Hardee Street NE in the Edgewood neighborhood.
The lot will feature a newly constructed two-story building with a wrap-around porch and surrounding garden areas on all sides. Construction of the 1,149-square-foot space will cost an estimated $250,000.
The center is the latest project by the Mayson Avenue Cooperative, which redeveloped the Edgewood Housing Apartments in 2011 and has committed 1.2 million dollars to support housing and education in the community, according to its website.
A representative of the Mayson Avenue Cooperative declined to comment on the forthcoming community center, citing the early stage of the project.
