Permits Filed For 194-Unit Grant Park Project

Avila Real Estate is moving forward with the development of its Berne St. Apartments project, according to permit applications for vertical construction filed on Thursday with the city.

Located at 842 Berne St. SE, just south of Maynard Holbrook Jackson High School, the five-story project will include 194 apartments, with 88 one-bedroom units, 95 two-bedrooms, and 11 three-bedrooms across 227,700 square feet of floor area, the latest site plans show. The project will provide a 300-space parking deck along with 20 bicycle spaces.

Permit filings indicate a slightly smaller project than was initially planned. Avila had proposed a 220-unit project at the BeltLine-adjacent site in 2016, What Now Atlanta reported at the time. Based in Atlanta, Avila, which has about 6,000 residential units under management in the city, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Avila’s latest progress at 842 Berne follows issuance in June of a permit for land development and infrastructure at the approximately 135,000-square-foot project site. Amenities at 842 Berne will include a club room, fitness center, and resort-style pool, according to the developer’s website.

  • I’ve seen some activity on that site and was hoping it was going to be literally anything other than another 5-story McPartment building.
