Toro Development Company, an Atlanta-based real estate development firm, recently announced the name, renderings and team behind its 43-acre mixed-use development proposed for Johns Creek.
Dubbed “Medley” for its “variety of flavors, experiences and people, the project is the first to apply for the recently passed TC-X mixed-use ordinance that paves the way for the city’s Town Center Vision and Plan,” according to a press release.
Located at the intersection of Johns Creek Parkway and McGinnis Ferry Road, Medley aims to kickstart the 192-acre Town Center as an “eatertainment” destination that brings the Johns Creek community together and creates a “Third Place” for people to gather outside their homes (first place) and the traditional office (second place).
“We are working in lockstep with the city and following their road map for the Town Center Vision and Plan,” John Kelley, partner at TDC, said in the release. “Our project as well as the greater Town Center will be transformative for Johns Creek residents and create the best parts of urban living in a suburban setting – walkability, great restaurants and entertainment, a high-energy place to go and just be around others in the community.”
The plan for Medley calls for 200,000 square feet of space for retail, restaurants and entertainment concepts, 900 residential units, which includes a mix of townhomes and luxury multifamily homes, and 110,000 square feet of office space.
“Our strategy is to develop a highly programmed street-level experience with residences above that bring feet to the street and invite human energy 18 hours a day, 7 days a week,” Mark Toro, principal and chief vision officer at TDC, saidn. “We will host more than 100 community events per year and recruit a mix of restaurants, fitness and entertainment concepts that know how to provide exceptional guest experiences that spill into the sidewalks, plazas and gathering areas. This will be a place where people come to do life together, and we are carefully planning every detail of this development so that it uniquely caters to the community of Johns Creek.”
To execute the vision for Medley, TDC has established a team including Franklin Street Senior Director Len Erickson, a veteran mixed-use/retail real estate advisor, and Senior Associate Kaitlyn Theriot, who will lead retail leasing; Stream Managing Director Bryan Heller and Vice President Billy Graddy, who will lead office leasing; architect Nelson Worldwide; engineering firm Kimley-Horn; and landscape architect Site Solutions.
In addition to Toro and Kelley, TDC is run by Richard Munger, Vicky Boyce, and Carla Cox. While working together at North American Properties Atlanta, the team led the “turnaround” of Atlantic Station, the ground-up development of Avalon, and the redevelopment of Colony Square.
