A new Whataburger appears to be in the works in McDonough.

The burger chain is proposed for E. Lake Parkway, according to construction documents. The site is across from a Kroger-anchored shopping center.

The new location comes from Made to Order Holdings, a local franchise group behind several existing and upcoming Whataburger locations in the Peach State.

Conyers, Fayetteville and Roswell, all expected to open this year, are next on the list. What Now Atlanta reported in March that a location is also proposed for Loganville. More than 50 locations of Whataburger could be headed to Georgia over the next few years.

Whataburger began in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas. In addition to burgers, the menu includes chicken, fries, onion rings, salads and shakes. There are now more than 1,000 locations across 15 states. (The brand’s 1,000th location opened earlier this year right here in Georgia, at Akers Mill Square.)

Metro Atlanta’s first Whataburger opened in Kennesaw in 2022.
