Big Citizen, the restaurant partnership team behind The Lawrence, Bon Ton, and newly-opened Wonderkid, will be hosting Mardi Gras-themed pop-ups at Bon Ton and Tapa Tapa, now through “Fat Tuesday” February 25.
Midtown’s Viet-Cajun restaurant and bar Bon Ton will offer cocktails inspired by classic NOLA music, such as George Lewis’ “Down by the Riverside,” Rebirth Brass Band’s “Do Whatcha Wanna” and “I Feel Like Funkin’ It Up,” and The Dixie Cups’ “Iko Iko.”
Tapa Tapa will have a “created by Bon Ton cocktail menu” at the ‘Mardis-Val on Monroe – Parade of Cocktails,’ pop-up where each drink name draws inspiration from the Mardi Gras Krewes that march in the New Orleans parades.
This year’s pop-ups include inspiration from five other carnivals around the globe happening now in Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, and Spain.
Each cocktail is named after an international carnival krewe. The name of the Julep Sour is the Krewe Zulu-Nola Julep Sour, the Hurricane the Krewe Rio De Janeiro Brazil, and the Pimm’s Cup is the Krewe Venice Italy Pimmy Cupola’s Americano Rangoon.
Founded by Darren Carr with partner Eric Simpkins, Atlanta-based Big Citizen was established in 2017 and recently-opened diner Wonderkid in the Atlanta Dairies development, with plans for a yet-to-be-named downtown art-inspired bar to open in 2020.
