The Kirkwood bakeshop has been closed for renovations.

After temporarily closing in April for renovations, Dulce Vegan Bakery & Café should re-open its doors mid-summer, the bakeshop in a press release announced Wednesday.

The exact date is “to be determined.”

During the bakery’s hiatus, owners Howell Belser and Idalys Sansores have made changes to the space including streamlining the kitchen, updating the front of house with a new counter and window seating, as well as refining Dulce’s organic, plant-based café menu.

Decatur’s Jeffrey Wren of EarthStation: Architecture and contractor Brian Jones of Council Wooten & Associates LLC are overseeing the remodel.

Dulce Vegan got its start as a wholesale plant-based organic baking business in 2006. In the summer of 2012 the bakeshop opened its brick and mortar location. The café serves up items like cinnamon rolls and scones, and a selection of soups, sandwiches and salads, all made with organic, local and fair-trade ingredients.
