The prime corner Midtown space that housed Escorpión for a decade will soon be given new life as El Valle Kitchen & Bar, a restaurant that promises “a new gastronomic experience inspired by the Baja Med cuisine,” according to its Facebook page.

“Baja Med is a term conceived by Chef Miguel Ángel Guerrero that refers to fusion cuisine of Mexican cuisine, such as chicharrón and cotija cheese, with those of Mediterranean, such as olive oil, and Asian cuisine, such as lemongrass,” according to Wikipedia. “Baja Med dishes showcase the fresh produce and seafood of Baja California.”

Escorpión closed its doors in February, and now, less than a year later, El Valle is nearing its debut. Currently, in the liquor licensing process with the City of Atlanta, little-to-no work is expected converting the space into the new Mexican eatery. A permit application filed in November outlines only $3,500 worth of work expected during the transition — to move in new equipment and to paint the dining area.

Despite the lack of physical renovations to the space itself, El Valle will feel different and new in its fixtures and furnishings “designed to enjoy every corner, every moment, every bite,” according to its Facebook page. “It’s all in the details. We are inspired by the Mexican culture to enjoy a unique experience in El Valle.”

Details regarding El Valle are scarce. The restaurant’s general contractor confirmed the news but would not divulge information when reached over the telephone Wednesday. Coro Realty, the real estate firm that leased the space, was not immediately available for comment, and an email to El Valle’s owner has not been returned.

The restaurant, at 800 Peachtree St NE Suite F, is currently hiring for bartenders and servers, one of the last steps in opening — which El Valle’s social media from early December indicates will be “very soon.”
