Portman Holdings is about to drop $530,000 renovating its nearly new JP Atlanta restaurant downtown, according to a permit application recently filed with the City of Atlanta.
The restaurant is situated inside the Hotel Indigo Atlanta Downtown which is housed in the 230 Peachtree development—the building was first developed by Portman Holdings and designed by John Portman & Associates in 1965 as an office building.
The plans, submitted by Portman Holdings’ Vice President of Construction Bill Morrison, follow Hospitality Ventures Management Group’s (HVMG) departure from the project.
Legacy Ventures assumed management of the hotel and restaurant in late-2017, according to the hospitality company’s website.
“In short order, the Legacy Ventures team has materially improved the hotel’s profitability, RevPAR Index, and guest service scores.”
In addition to managing third-party assets, Legacy also owns and operates several of its own properties and restaurants around town like The Glenn Hotel downtown and the recently-opened Max’s Coal Oven Pizzeria.
Renovations are set to begin any day and will be completed in the fall, tentatively September, a manager at JP Atlanta Wednesday told What Now Atlanta (WNA) over the phone.
During construction, the restaurant will remain open for breakfast and dinner and close during lunch.
Representatives from Portman Holdings and Legacy Ventures did not after several attempts return WNA’s request for comment.

There are 17 floor above the hotel of office space and they don’t cater to their potential customers … prices too steep for a lunch crowd. We miss having a place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch from downstairs, without breaking the bank. We don’t want to have to always go across the street to Peachtree Center.
