Lava Lounge, at 57 13th St. NE, will soon reopen as “hideaway oasis” Tiki Tango under the same ownership, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution Monday first reported.
Scott McCray since February 2018 has been working with Frank Simotics—AKA The Tiki Rancher—to transform the 20-year-old Lava Lounge into Tiki Tango.
Simotics has been made popular for his tiki decor and one-of-a-kind wood carvings.
“Tiki Tango is a new three-level Polynesian palace in the heart of Midtown,” according to the company’s Facebook page.
“The Tiki Rancher has transformed a 1920ss bungalow into a hideaway oasis.”
It could open mid-January following a series of private events held at the end of 2018.
The new bar will offer the kind of tiki drinks and specialty glassware you’d expect alongside tiki-inspired small bites.
Across its three floors from top to bottom will be VIP lounge “Tiger’s Den,” the “Main Deck” in the middle, and the peaked-roof “Flamingo Room.”
Two-story “live sunsets” from around the world will be projected inside.
Once open, Tiki Tango will operate from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday to Saturday.
It will be the second tiki concept to open in Atlanta in recent years.
Kauai, Hawaii-based Tiki Iniki debuted in Virginia-Highland late-2018.
