A Southern breakfast favorite is taking flight to a new location.
Flying Biscuit Cafe in Candler Park, the brand’s original location, is closing its doors to open anew just a few minutes away at 1530 DeKalb Avenue. The space was formerly occupied by Lazy Betty, which is relocating to Midtown.
Joseph Hsiao of H Restaurant Group, who operates Candler Park’s Flying Biscuit Cafe with his brother Matthew, told What Now Atlanta the plan is to be open at the new location at the beginning of June – almost 31 years exactly from when Flying Biscuit Cafe first opened its doors at 1655 McLendon Avenue.
Customers can expect the same menu items they have come to know and love.
“Everything’s going to be the same,” Hsiao said. “Same menu, same staff, same team, everything is going to be the same. It’s a positive change.”
The new space is a similar size, but with a more modern look, aligning the location with other new Flying Biscuit Cafes that have a more contemporary vibe, Hsiao said.
Flying Biscuit Cafe first opened in Candler Park in 1993. It has since grown to dozens of locations across six states. The menu includes Southern favorites like biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles, and grits, along with omelettes, burgers and sandwiches.
Hsiao said there will be no interruption in service for Flying Biscuit visitors in Candler Park, with the original location set to operate right up until the DeKalb Avenue one opens its doors this summer.
When the new cafe is up and running, expect lots of promotions, including giveaways of shirts and gift cards and $5 deals on some of the restaurant’s popular menu items.
H Restaurant Group is the operator of several concepts in Atlanta, including the Flying Biscuit Cafe in Midtown and Willie Rae’s Social House in Marietta, which they acquired last fall.
“We’re extremely proud that we have Willie Rae’s,” Hsiao said.
What is going into the Candler Park space?
It’s not known yet what will be going into the space once Flying Biscuit Cafe moves.

This article told the “what”, but not the “why” – as in “why are they moving from the original location, which has been a Candler Park institution for some 30 years”? That location also incorporated an adjacent bakery space, so will that continue to operate in the new location as well?
