After serving Midtown for more than a decade, RA Sushi has closed its doors, at 1080 Peachtree St NE #8. Google lists the restaurant as “permanently closed” and the Japanese-fusion chain’s website has removed the Midtown restaurant from its locations page.
An eagle-eyed What Now Atlanta reader spotted the space being emptied Monday, with crews saying Sunday, July 17, 2022, was RA Sushi’s last day in the space. Reps for the company, owned by Benihana Inc., did not immediately comment on the closure Tuesday.
What Now Atlanta in 2019 reported that RA Sushi would likely close its doors after leasing materials showed the prime corner Midtown space as “coming available.” Leasing reps for the property vehemently denied that RA would close, saying the marketing materials were created in error. “It was an error by our administrative assistant and [the space] is not coming available,” they said at the time. “RA [Sushi] is obviously very upset and has requested an immediate correction.”
RA Sushi, based in Scottsdale, AZ, was acquired in 2002 by Benihana Inc. The restaurant has grown to 25 locations nation-wide, making it the “largest sushi brand in the country,” according to RA Sushi’s social media.
That sound you hear is the feet of hookah “lounge” and daiquiri bar owners running to this location . . .
Please, don’t even tempt them! We have enough already! lol
It may be worth grabbing a new version of the available spaces map from The Shopping Center Group website. It looks like there’s a new restaurant location coming to the space next to RA called Johnny’s Famous Chicken & Waffles from College Park. Additionally, Sage Dental has leased a lot of the old Ri Ra space. A sauna that was formally known as Hot Box has taken the At Lease space, etc.
