Seattle-based coffee giant opening soon near Georgia Tech.

Starbucks is opening a new Midtown location, the Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported.

The new coffee shop, at 744 Spring Street, will open in space formerly occupied by Arby’s.

Unlike other Starbucks locations in Midtown, the new coffee shop will boast a drive-thru.

Starbucks’ new store will be located just a few blocks away from the Barnes and Noble Starbucks at Georgia Tech.

  • This is great!! The Starbucks at Tech is poorly staffed and the lines are always out the door. They need a new location there to ease that demand!

  • Schultz always said the biggest enemy of Starbucks was Starbucks (as in too many during the great recession). It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the long run. My guess? Smashing success for this location in particular.

  • Really wish this didn’t have a drive-thru… Spring Street in the Tech Square area is already too freeway-like and more catering to drivers will not make the area more pedestrian-friendly. Bummer.

  • The B&N location is licensed. I’m sure company owned are more desirable to SBUX. Ultimately, I bet the B&N location closes – or drops its affiliation with SBUX.

  • Well, if it pans out anything like that Arby’s did, here’s my best guess: it’ll be a haven for drug activity, you’ll have your electronics snatched during the day, and most certainly get robbed/carjacked when you go for a post-dinner coffee. I give it a year.
