UPDATE (May 10, 2018): Details Emerge For Lazy Betty, a Concept From Ron Hsu and Sweet Auburn BBQ Team

Howard and Anita Hsu, sibling co-owners of Sweet Auburn BBQ and their brother Ron Hsu,  have quietly been planning a new “chef-driven” concept called Lazy Betty.

The restaurant, at 652 N. Highland Avenue, will be situated adjacent the family’s Asian-influenced southern barbecue joint in Poncey-Highland, according to a request for contractor bids Friday.

What Now Atlanta (WNA) first uncovered plans for Lazy Betty—named after the family’ mom Betty—in November 2017 when permits were submitted to the City of Atlanta.

Betty Hsu and her husband George owned and operated American Chinese restaurants in the 1980s, according to Zagat.

The application called for $501,120 in interior renovations including to “one tenant’s portion of the existing building” which is most likely Soul Vegetarian No. 2 (given the address and project plans.)

Soul Vegetarian No. 2 has not been reachable by phone.

A spokesperson for the family in an email Friday told WNA “they are hopeful it will be at that location but nothing has been approved.”

Lazy Betty will “introduce a new southern cuisine” and could open fall 2018according to its Facebook page.
