Sweetgreen has been around since 2007, when three college friends got together and decided there was a serious lack of healthy, affordable food in the area around Georgetown University where they’d been living. The friends saw only fresh, slow food that was expensive or unhealthy, fast food that was cheap. They set about to fill that gap.

“Sweetgreen is an attempt to change fast food culture,” shares the company’s website. How? Sweetgreen ‘lets nature lead’ in the form of fresh salads, plates, and bowls, all of which are veggie-forward. Today, the company has over 100 locations throughout the U.S. (oh and Naomi Osaka recently became their youngest investor).

Earlier this summer, Sweetgreen broke into the Atlanta market for the first time, and a new permit application indicates the company is already expanding here. According to a building permit application, Sweetgreen has taken over Suite 107 at 1050 Howell Mill Road, in Star Metals, West Midtown’s new mixed-use development. The permit plans include a new storefront as well as new partition walls.

And it looks like Sweetgreen is already showing Atlanta some love. Next time you’re looking for something quick, err on the healthy side and order up an Atlanta Bowl, which is comprised of blackened catfish, shredded cabbage, carrots, red onion, and spicy sunflower seeds over a bed of wild rice and baby spinach. Sounds delicious.
