An Atlanta hot dog and burger staple appears to be working on another location.
A former Burger King in Watkinsville is set to be converted into The Varsity, according to construction documents.
The site on Hog Mountain Road is located near Butler’s Crossing, a shopping center in Oconee County anchored by a Publix.
The Varsity first opened in 1928. The menu includes hot dogs, burgers, chicken nuggets, fries, onion rings, shakes and fried pies. In addition to the original location in Downtown Atlanta, The Varsity can now be found in Norcross, Kennesaw, Dawsonville, Bethlehem, Cartersville and Rome. There are also multiple outposts of The Varsity at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
The Oconee Enterprise reported that The Varsity purchased the former Burger King site last year and that it might be six to eight months before momentum on the new location comes into focus.
Bad location for the Varsity with the amount of traffic it will have and the congestion in the area with the schools. The Burger King had one way in and one way out, think that is one of the main reasons that the Burger King didn’t make it a that location.
