A state-of-the-art fitness club is expanding to Atlanta.

Carbon Performance is bringing its first location outside Tennessee to Westside Paper, leasing a 33,500-square-foot space at the mixed-use destination.

The boutique gym provides strength training and cardio equipment from top manufacturers. Additional offerings include boot camps, pilates and yoga classes, personal and group training sessions, youth performance programs, plus wellness amenities like infrared saunas, cold plunges and a café with a smoothie bar.

Brent Laffey, who founded the concept with his wife Victoria Laffey, said the Atlanta location has a target opening of late summer or early fall 2025.

Carbon Performance currently has two locations in Tennessee: one in Franklin and the other in a Nashville neighborhood called The Nations.

Laffey said Atlanta made sense for the company’s first expansion outside of its home state, the metro area having many of the same qualities that made Nashville a successful market for the concept.

“Atlanta is the first one that we’re going to, and we’re pretty excited about it and what’s to come,” he said.

Reimagined by FCP and Westbridge, Westside Paper is a 15-acre adaptive reuse project centered around a 70-year-old former paper manufacturing plant at 950 West Marietta Street. It is adjacent to the Atlanta BeltLine Connector Spur Trail.

Westside Paper inked over 113,000 square feet of new leases in 2024, with Bridger Properties spearheading the leasing strategy, led by Shelbi Bodner. Other leases at the development include a 50,000-square-foot showroom for Construction Resources; a 13,000-square-foot event space from Proof of the Pudding called The Dogwood; and the 25,000-square-foot padel club Padel House.

  • I don’t think I’d call Checker’s/Rally’s “fast casual”. It’s flat out fast food. Nothing wrong with that, but they are essentially a drive thru restaurant. No inside. If they’re not fast food, is anything?
