A new commercial development with a grocery store is underway in Gainesville.

The new shopping center, located at the intersection of Thompson Bridge and Price roads, is called Riverbrook Marketplace and will feature a Publix, according to construction plans.

The Publix store will be nearly 49,000 square feet and include a pharmacy drive-thru, with another one-story commercial building next to it that measures nearly 8,000 square feet, according to the documents.

The team behind “Building B” is listed as Benderson Development, one of the largest privately-held real estate companies in the country whose portfolio includes grocery stores, restaurants, hotels and more. Plans show room for several tenant spaces.

Building B is labeled as “retail/restaurant” space, but it’s not clear if the tenants for the space have been decided.

Fuqua Development, an Atlanta-based developer with projects across the Southeast, is listed as the team behind the Publix section of the building, according to construction plans. Fuqua Development’s portfolio includes The Battery Atlanta, the mixed-use destination adjacent to Truist Park. Publix is among several retail clients that Fuqua Development has.

Publix currently has more than 1,300 locations across eight states, most of which are in Florida.
