A store specializing in new and used LEGO products is coming to the Grayson area.

Bricks & Minifigs is set to open at 2715 Loganville Highway. The 3,216-square-foot store will be located next to Publix at the Grayson Village shopping center.

“This is minifig week,” owner Mike Bruce told What Now Atlanta, referring to the mini-figurines LEGO is known for. They are assembling thousands of them ahead of the opening of the upcoming store.

This is his first Bricks & Minifigs store, but his passion for LEGO products goes way back.

How LEGO and Technology Intersect

As vice president of software development for several companies, he used LEGO as a way to train others in software development. The fields are more similar than you might think.

“Good software that’s designed well and built well is very modular,” he said. “If you write it well, it can plug into other software. The same is true with LEGO. You can buy a LEGO set and you can build what the instructions tell you, or you can build something else, or you can buy a different LEGO set and they’ll all still work and they’ll all interconnect. Using those concepts in the physical world, especially with young software developers, they grasp the idea.”

He has conducted such training in places as far as India to Houston, Texas, to right here in Atlanta.

When he left the corporate world, he was inspired to start a business where people want to go, not a place where they have to go.

“We’re trying to build a very happy and fun place, a place for kids to come and enjoy,” he said.

Bricks & Minifigs was founded by David Ortiz and John Masek. The first store opened in Battle Ground, Washington, in 2010 as a way to create a space for buying, selling and trading LEGO products. The first franchise location opened in 2011, and since then, the company has grown to more than 130 stores across the U.S. and Canada. It is now headquartered in Orem, Utah.

Bricks & Minifigs in Georgia

The Grayson store will be the second location of Bricks & Minifigs in the Peach State, with the first in Johns Creek at 9945 Jones Bridge Road.

Mike Bruce hopes to create a welcoming space for LEGO fans to sell products or find new ones for their collections, including retired sets or hard-to-find varieties.

“Say you’re a LEGO fan and you bought the Millennium Falcon and now you’re moving and have no place to move it,” he said. “You can bring it in and I’ll buy it from you, I’ll clean it up, put it on the shelf, and sell it to someone looking for the Millennium Falcon.”

He hopes to open several more Bricks & Minifigs stores in Georgia, with the goal of opening three in five years. He envisions expanding east (toward Athens or Savannah) or west (likely in Marietta or Smyrna).

The store will also be a place for birthday parties, corporate events, STEM classes and stop-motion animation workshops.

Bricks & Minifigs is set to hold a grand opening for the new location on March 22, 2025. The event is slated to include giveaways and food trucks.
