District M, a modern sushi restaurant rooted in traditional Japanese omakase (a meal consisting of dishes selected by the chef), is slated to open late-February 2019 in Sandy Springs, according to a press release Monday.

Helmed by Executive Chef Jackie Chang (O-Ku and Umi), District M will boast a 20-seat sushi bar and seating for 140 (with 10 bar seats inside and another 30 on the patio), and a Japanese charcoal barbecue grill.

It will have its fish flown in daily from Japan and offer a beverage list of Japanese whiskey, beer, and saké.

District M is situated in the new Modera Sandy Springs mixed-use development, at 6125 Roswell Road.

Chef Jackie will serve Edomae-style omakase.

“Perhaps the most intimate omakase service style, Chef Jackie will select, craft and present sushi courses per the guest’s individual preferences,” according to the release.

“Edomae-style sushi is generally understood to involve treating the fish, including some sort of cooking or curing element before serving, and is known for its incredibly precise methodology.”

Omakase at District M will include:

  • Benzaiten: market price for as many courses as the guest desires, including but not limited to an appetizer, salad, soup, sashimi, a hot entrée such as black cod or oxtail ribs, and dessert
  • Bishamonten: four courses including carpaccio, 10 pieces of sashimi or 6 pieces of nigiri sushi, soup, black cod, and dessert for $60 per person
  • Nigiri Omakase: available only at the sushi bar and including an appetizer, a sushi roll, soup, 14 pieces of nigiri sushi and dessert for $90 per person.
  • Moriawase: chef’s choice of three to five kinds of seasonal sashimi, O-Toro sashimi, white fish sashimi (depending on daily availability) or 12 pieces of assorted nigiri sushi.

There will be à la carte sashimi, nigiri and rolls are on the menu, including a selection of salmon varieties, jackfish, whitefish, mackerel, shellfish, eel and roe, and O-Toro.

District M will serve lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
